"The Most Interesting Man in the World" is an advertising campaign for the Dos Equis Mexican brand of beer. The ads feature American actor Jonathan Goldsmith as "The Most Interesting Man in the World," someone so epic that “his mom has a tattoo that reads ‘son.’”
The campaign, narrated by American voice-over artist and PBS Frontline’s Will Lyman, has been so successful that has increased the sales of “cerveza” Dos Equis, while becoming a pop culture icon – similar to the legendary Old Spice “Hello Ladies” commercial by spokesman Isaiah Mustafa.
The agency described The Most Interesting Man as someone "rich in stories and experiences, much the way the audience hopes to be in the future." They explain that, rather than an "embodiment of the brand," The Most Interesting Man is a "voluntary brand spokesperson" -- as he and the beer maker supposedly share the same point of view: "life should be lived interestingly."
Goldsmith recently said in an interview that he realized how successful the campaign had been when a man came up to him in a restaurant, telling him that he had asked his young son what he wanted to be when he grew up, and the boy replied: "I want to be The Most Interesting Man In The World. Stay thirsty my friends."
The Most Interesting Man has also become a wildly popular meme, which in turn has inspired additional memes with different characters such as celebrities, athletes and memes who parody Dos Equis' famous quotes. Here are the 25 most popular ones (be warned that some memes may contain profanity):
