One of the most popular culture stories of the summer has focused on who will star in the upcoming film adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey, the best-selling book which continues to sell across America. Now, avid fans have taken it to the next level, creating mock trailers which star different actresses and actresses, to make it clear who they are hoping will star in the upcoming film.
The latest fan trailer features Matt Bomer and Alexandra Daddario, produced with full-on sex scenes and raunchy moments. If you're new to this conversation, Matt Bomer has frequently been mentioned in the 50 Shades conversation, though he comes with a fair amount of controversy. Earlier this summer, Bomer was believed to be out of the running, after writer Bret Easton Ellis tweeted that Bomer should not play the male lead in 50 Shades of Grey because he is gay. Ellis had been interested in serving as the screenwriter for the movie, but he was removed from the screenwriting list. Subsequently, on Aug. 8, he tweeted, "Okay I'll say it. Matt Bomer isn't right for Christian Grey because he is openly gay. He's great for other roles but this is too big a game."
After facing backlash for that tweet, Ellis responded, "I am NOT discriminating Matt Bomer because of his sexuality. Fifty Shades of Grey demands an actor that is genuinely into women. Get it?!?" He followed that up with, "I think Matt Bomer is incredibly handsome and a good actor but I think he comes off totally gay in White Collar. And that is why no to CG [Christian Grey] ..."
But, that attack against Bomer may have actually boosted his appeal with fans. Meanwhile, Alexandra Daddario is the young star of Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lighning Thief and The Squid and the Whale.
No matter how excited some fans may be for Bomer, however, the role of Christian Grey may still be going to Ryan Gosling. According to "Now" Magazine, Leonard reported that "last he heard," 31-year-old Ryan Gosling was in the lead for the role of Christian Grey.
