Reports of Gunfire At JFK Airport Terminal 8 Prompts Evacuation Late Sunday

Authorities evacuated parts of John F. Kennedy Airport in Queens, New York after reports of shots fired in Terminal 8 late Sunday night, according to multiple news outlets.

Witnesses reportedly told authorities they heard at least two gunshots at about 9:30 p.m., PIX11 News reported. Photos posted to social media showed a heavy police presence at the airport and travelers being evacuated. 

The reports of gunfire were later deemed unfounded, according to PIX11.

No one has been reported harmed, and whether anyone actually discharged a firearm at the airport remains unclear, according to a Port Authority statement posted to an official NYC/New Jersey airport account. Police are investigating.
