U.S. preparing charges against Julian Assange, report says

Impact

U.S. authorities have drawn up charges in an attempt to have WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange arrested, CNN reported Thursday evening.

The charges will reportedly relate to WikiLeaks' 2010 release of hundreds of thousands of pages' worth of classified U.S. military documents.

WikiLeaks received those documents from Chelsea Manning, an Army soldier who was charged with and convicted of violating the Espionage Act.

Manning is set to be freed from prison next month, after her sentence was commuted by former President Barack Obama.

Assange, on the other hand, is currently hiding out in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London.
