Martin Scorsese Bill Clinton Documentary: Democratic Duo Team Up for HBO Film

Culture

Democrats rejoice. After directing films like The Departed and Gangs of New York, Martin Scorsese's next film will take on a very different topic: Bill Clinton. Scorsese is partnering with HBO on the documentary project, a film the 42nd president will be cooperating on fully.

Scorsese has previously devoted himself to nonfiction film pursuits with features on subjects like George Harrison and The Band. As of yet there is no title or release date for the Bill Clinton project but in a statement Scorsese provided a few more glimmers of detail describing Clinton as "a towering figure who remains a major voice in world issues." He continued on stating that Clinton, "continues to shape the political dialogue both her and around the world." Of the film Scorsese commented, "Through intimate conversations, I hope to provide greater insight into this transcendent figure."

In his own statement Clinton said, "I am pleased that legendary director Martin Scorsese and HBO have agreed to do this film. I look forward to sharing my perspective on my years as president, and my work in the years since, with HBO's audience."

Earlier this year HBO aired a somewhat disappointing documentary about Clinton's predecessor George H.W. Bush, entitled 41. Hopefully the Scorsese-Clinton duo will produce more exciting results.

What do you think of the documentary project? Are you excited for the film? Is now the right time for a Clinton documentary?
