Joe Biden Responding to Assault Weapons Ban Critic: A Shotgun Will Keep You Just As Safe

Vice President Joe Biden took to the internet on Thursday to press his case for the Biden gun control plan.

Billed as a "fireside chat" with the vice president, a handful of invited participants pressed Obama's deputy about elements of the administration's "gun control" plan during a Google+ Hangout. They discussed the assault weapon ban, mental health services, and magazine sizes.

Biden did have a classic moment during the hangout: Responding to a question about the need for assault weapons for protection ... i.e., in the wake of a natural disaster like an earthquake ... the VP said there's a better weapon to keep people safe: a double-barreled shotgun.

"Guess what? A shotgun will keep you a lot safer -- a double-barreled shotgun -- than an assault weapon in somebody’s hands that doesn’t know how to use it, even one who does know how to use it," the vice president said during during a Google+ Hangout.

"You know, it's harder to use an assault weapon to hit something than it is a shotgun, OK. So if you want to keep people away in an earthquake, buy some shotgun shells."
