Elizabeth Warren Releases First Senate Campaign Ad

Senate-hopeful Elizabeth Warren has issued her first TV ad in her bid to unseat Republican Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown.

In the largely biographical ad, Warren discusses her family story and paints herself as a life-long crusader against the banking industry. She positions herself as a Washington, D.C. outsider bent on shaking up Congress and Wall Street.

"For years, I worked to expose how Wall Street and the big banks are crushing middle-class families. It just isn’t right. I stood up to the big banks and their army of Washington lobbyists. I worked to hold them accountable. ... But Washington is still rigged for the big guys, and that’s got to change."

The ad, which will run statewide, comes as Republican groups like Karl Rove's Crossroads GPS have run negative ads against Warren. Warren's campaign has raised $300,000 from donors in response to Crossroads GPS.

Warren chaired the oversight of the 2008 U.S. banking bailout, and led the conception and establishment of the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. In the ad, she says, I led the fight for a new agency to protect consumers — and we got it."

In light of Occupy Wall Street, Warren is painting herself as the candidate that will represent the 99% in the 2012 election cycle. She concludes her message, "I approve this message, because I want Massachusetts families to have a level playing field."
