Violence Against Women Act Passed By Senate 78-22: Full Roll Call

The U.S. Senate passed a reauthorization of the 1994 Violence Against Women Act on Tuesday by an overwhelming 78 to 22 margin. Next, the bill will move to the GOP-controlled House of Representatives, where it is expected to meet much stiffer opposition thanks to the presence of substantial contingent of Tea Party-backed candidates who fear that the act's protections would extend to same-sex couples and undocumented immigrants.

Vice President Joe Biden has been an especially strong proponent of the legislation, as he helped draft the 1994 bill as a member of the Senate. Most notably, Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) voted against the legislation mere hours before he is to give the Republican response to the president's State of the Union address. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) also voted against the bill and he is scheduled to give the Tea Party response to the president's speech.
