Reddit Bans Child Porn, Amazon Japan Selling Whale Meat, and Top 10 Things You Need to Read on Your Lunch Break

Here are the top 10 things you should be reading on your Wednesday lunch break:

(2) Two Western journalists were killed in Syria this morning during an attack on the city of Homs by President al-Assad's forces. Marie Colvin, an American working for a British newspaper, and Remi Ochlik, a French photographer working with Colvin, were killed. In 2012 alone, 5 journalists have been killed and 153 have been imprisoned.

(3) Salon.com's Glenn Greenwald weighs in on the New York Police Department's spying program aimed at Muslim students at Yale, the University of Pennsylvania, Rutgers, and 13 other colleges in the Northeast. For the past year, the NYPD, working along with the CIA, has "engaged in a sprawling spying campaign aimed at Muslim individuals, students, institutions and mosques in the United States, all without a whiff of any suspected wrongdoing."

(5) Buy whale meat on Amazon.com? Environmentalists and ocean advocates are calling for Amazon.com to halt the sale of illegal animal products, after it has been revealed that whale meat is being openly sold on Amazon Japan's online marketplace.

(9) Shocking statistics about the prevalence of rape and sexual abuse in the U.S. prison system. The Justice Department estimates there were 216,000 victims of sexual abuse in 2008.

(10) After two days of protests in Afghanistan, the commander of U.S. international forces has apologized that American troops at the Bagram Air Base accidentally burned hundreds of copies of the Quran. “I offer my sincere apologies to the noble people of Afghanistan,” said Marine Gen. John R. Allen said in a statement.
