Lando Calrissian Strikes Back With the Greatest Karaoke Session Ever

Culture

In anticipation of the new Star Wars movie, the good folks over at Nerdist Industries have created a video that should please just about everyone. It takes place in the cantina from A New Hope, arguably one of the most iconic locations in the series, and casts Patton Oswalt as the bartender, Chris Hardwick as Han Solo (who always shoots first), and Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian. The one-time smuggler, ruler of Cloud City, and destroyer of the New Death Star (it's been 30 years since Return of the Jedi, so that's no longer a spoiler) is back, and he looks phenomenal.

In the scene, Lando sings karaoke to the song "West Coast" by Coconut Records (the musical side project of Jason Schwartzman, who also appears in the video), and does so with energy and aplomb. There are many familiar faces in the crowd, and if you know your Star Wars, there are a lot of laughs in this short.

Williams is rumored to have been cast in the upcoming Star Wars sequel, and even though the people at Nerdist are in no way affiliated with Disney, which now owns the Star Wars franchise, Williams's appearance is a good sign that the rumor is true. Disney has been very tight-lipped as to who will star in the flagship films. Guesses range from Mark Hamill, Carrie Fischer, and Harrison Ford, who would reprise their respective roles, to newer faces like Zachary Levi and Florence Welch. Even if the rumor isn't true, and the new Star Wars is sadly Billy Dee Williams-less, it's still great to see him playing his iconic character again, even if it's just for a skit.
