What Famous Disney Characters Would Look Like With Badass Tattoos and Piercings

Modern takes on Disney princesses have been all the rage lately. Graphic artists have taken to appropriating the squeaky-clean role models to make powerful statements on race, gendersexual abusedomestic violence and even the environment. (The princes have also gotten similar treatments on abuse, gender and sexuality.)

Now Italian artist Emmanuel Viola has updated the familiar princesses in a new, fresh way: as pierced and tattooed-up badasses.

Viola's characters are a far cry from their demure and proper Disney incarnations, breaking the princesses out their molds and helping us imagine them as modern women. (And there are many cameos from other fan-favorite Disney characters as well.) Not only is it a cool aesthetic, but it helps us get away from the "perfect princess" image.
