A Hiker Stumbled Across an Eerie Abandoned Neighborhood in the Middle of a National Park

Impact

Need the perfect location for your next horror film? Look no further than Tennessee's Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Photographer Jordan Liles discovered an entire abandoned neighborhood and hotel while hiking there, and he managed to capture the experience with both photos and video. According to his blog, parts of the area were constructed more than 100 years ago. The hotel was once known as the Wonderland Club; Fox 2 reports that it closed in 1992, and the lease ran out in 2001.

"About a mile up an unnamed gravel road inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the back way into an abandoned neighborhood and hotel," Liles writes. "I [explored] the houses and the remains of what was once referred to as the Wonderland Club."

The site may have once been a popular spot, but it's long since abandoned. It certainly looks the part:

As Roadtrippers points out, the Wonderland Club and its surroundings resemble other American ghost towns, like Cisco, Utah, Chloride, Arizona, and Bodie, California.

If you're feeling adventurous, the still-active Elkmont Campground is nearby. It's the perfect spot to set up shop trekking out to the far creepier Wonderland Club.
