The news: There are still some decent people in the world after all.

A man at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport this past Thursday attacked and bullied a man simply because he was wearing a pink shirt.

A bystander intervened and asked the disturbed man what he was upset about.

"Queers is what I'm upset about. This faggot right here," the interloper yelled as he pointed at the man in the pink shirt. After a few more words, he kicked the pink-shirted man in the groin and punched him in the head while calling him a "fucking queer."

Bystanders rushed in as soon as the fight started. The man who started the fight claimed he fought because "this is America." He then said he'd "beat the shit out of" the pink-shirted man soon enough.

The instigator was taken into custody. His name has not been revealed. Witnesses told the Daily Mail the perpetrator seemed like he could've been "on some sort of drug" or perhaps even under the effects of alcohol.

This video is just one unfortunate example of LGBT discrimination. It's easy to consider the United States' progress in LGBT affairs, but we still have quite a bit of work to do. For example, anti-gay hate crimes in New York City increased by 70% in 2013 and are still a problem. A Brooklyn gay man was nearly beaten to death with a hammer recently while the attacker allegedly screamed anti-gay slurs. This is in addition to two transgendered individuals in New York who were also the victim of recent hate crimes.

Fortunately, in the case of the above video there were people around to put the bigot in his place. Discrimination is an unfortunate reality of our society, but it can be fought if people are willing to challenge it. Be willing.
