Taylor Swift Just Gave Us the Best Reason to Love Her Yet

Culture

The news: America's best friend Taylor Swift is doing something that not even the haters are gonna hate. Swift announced Wednesday on the View that all proceeds from her single "Welcome to New York" will be donated to New York City public schools.

Shake off the critics: When she's not on a never-ending press tour for her newly released album 1989, she's busy as New York City's Global Welcome Ambassador. This is a nice way to shut up critics who have criticized her for writing "Welcome to New York," considering that she's lived here for about two minutes (in a lavish, multimillion-dollar penthouse) and still claims she's just one of us.

But if ever there were a true New Yorker trait, it's looking out for your own — and this donation will certainly do that.

Swift is clearly genuinely altruistic, too. She's not one to skimp on donation money to nonprofits: In 2012, she donated $4 million to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum for music education.

So the next time someone criticizes Taylor Swift to you, just shake it off.
