Video: Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz Tells Mic How Americans Can Really Honor Our Veterans

Impact

Since 9/11, the United States has deployed millions of troops to combat zones across the globe. And each year, thousands of Americans who have served on the front lines are returning home.

But these veterans often experience huge challenges reintegrating into civilian life after serving their country abroad. While the government remains mired in bureaucracy and red tape, many of our veterans struggle to find the support they need to resume their lives at home.

Rather than celebrating Veterans Day with parades and mattress sales, there's one way we could really honor our men and women in service: Help them get a job. Some business leaders are taking the lead and helping former military personnel resume their normal lives. Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz has committed to hiring 10,000 veterans.

Schultz just co-authored a book, For Love of Country, with Washington Post war correspondent Rajiv Chandrasekaran, which tells the inspiring stories of our servicemen and servicewomen. They sat down with Mic's Editor-in-Chief Jake Horowitz to talk about what America can do to truly honor our veterans.
