Hunger Games Movie: Philip Seymour Hoffman Joins Star Cast

According to Lionsgate, Catching Fire the upcoming installment of The Hunger Games franchise will begin production this fall, and will be released on November 22, 2013. 

The film, which tracks main character Katnis Everdeen's journey as she returns home to District 12 after winning the 74th Hunger Games, will count with Oscar-winning actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman as head gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee – playing opposite to previous Hunger Games cast members Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and Woody Harrelson.

The sequel, directed by Francis Lawrence (Water for Elephants), will show Seymour’s character entering the fictional world of “Panem,” a stage eventually reached by Evergreen and her sidekick Peeta Mellark as her victory tour across different districts makes them realize that a new revolution is in the works.  

Hoffman’s role it’s fundamental as he plays the orchestrator of the 75th annual Hunger Games, replacing the previous gamemaker, Seneca Crane (played by Wes Bentley), who was defeated by heroine Everdeen.
