Frank Ocean Channel Orange Album: Why Target Banned It From Stores

Frank Ocean’s debut album Channel Orange will not be sold in Target stores, and Ocean’s manager – who initially had blamed the ban on backlash over Ocean’s recent coming out as bisexual – said the ban is due to the fact that Def Jam’s (the record label) had made the album available early via iTunes – according to Hip Hop Blog.

Christian Clancy, Ocean’s manager, had tweeted previously (in a tweet deleted since) suggesting that Target’s refusal to carry and sale Ocean’s album was due to the singers aforementioned announcement. "Target has refused to carry Frank's album because of iTunes exclusive," Clancy tweeted; then adding, "Interesting since they also donate to non-equal rights organizations."

However, the current official version from Team Frank Ocean is that the Target stores might have refused to carry his album due to “a generational gap.” That much tweeted Ocean to his fans when explaining the Target Channel Orange mishap. Nonetheless, Frank Ocean’s debut album is available through the iTunes store, Amazon and Best Buy which – as Ocean tweeted – “it’s on deck.”
