Opening Ceremony London 2012 Olympics: Mitt Romney Blasted by Carl Lewis for London Olympic Blunder

Carl Lewis, the former American sprinter and 9-time gold Olympic medalist, criticized former governor of Massachusetts and presumptive Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney for his recent comments about London’s preparedness for the Olympics.

Romney is facing backlash after his anticipated foreign policy tour bombed over his London preparedness gaffe, as well as for seemingly forgetting Labour leader Ed Miliband’s name during a press conference.

The gaffes quickly originated the Twitter hashtag #RomneyShambles through which users of the popular micro blogging site blasted the former governor of Massachusetts for his tone-deaf comments about the city he was supposedly visiting in good will.

And Lewis joined the chorus, when the former champion spoke to The Independent as First Lady Michelle Obama arrived in London to lead the U.S. delegation in tonight’s opening ceremony. “Every Olympics is ready, I don’t care what he [Romney] said. I swear, sometimes I think some Americans shouldn’t leave the country,” added Lewis.

Mitt Romney, who is flaunting his foreign trip as well as his participation in the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics – and whose wife Ann’s horse is participating in the games – met with Prime Minster David Cameron and Labour Leader Ed Miliband.
