50 Shades of Grey Movie Cast: Rooney Mara, Not Kirsten Stewart, Will Be Cast as Anastasia Steel

Following rumors that heartbroken heartthrob Robert Pattison is being considered for the part of Christian Grey in the upcoming film version of E.L. James’ controversial book Fifty Shades of Grey, some have rushed to propose that cheating Twilight co-star (and former real life girlfriend) Kirsten Stewart should play Anastasia Steel.

But the last thing that the highly anticipated erotic movie event of the decade needs is some teenage drama as a result of Stewart’s cheating scandal on Pattison with director Rupert Sanders. So, no Pattison neither Stewart should have anything to do with the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey. This leaves the male lead available for Ryan Gosling, one of the strongest contenders in the race for the part of Christian Grey. But who should be his counterpart?

Look no further, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo's Academy Award-nominated star Rooney Mara should be cast as Anastasia Steel, the innocent but increasingly curious student who falls for sadist magnate Christian Grey. Mara’s stunning performance as Lisbeth Salander, the introverted hacker who is victim of a traumatic childhood filled with sexual and mental abuse, in David Fincher’s 2011 film adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s book The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo, could be her best audition for the role of Anastasia Steel.

And the fact that Fifty Shades of Grey, the movie, will be produced by the same team that produced The Social Network can only help Mara’s changes of landing the coveted part -- as director David Fincher and producers Mara Brunetti and Michael De Luca have worked with Mara and could help her bring little Anastasia Steel to life with another strong and potentially awarded performance.
