"Sunburn Instagram" Is a Thing, and It's Utterly Horrifying

Impact

Ah, summer: the season of sunshine, barbecues, vacations and sand. Oh, and sunburns. Lots and lots of painful, angry, red sunburns.

For those poor souls who burn easily, or who don't use enough (or any) sunscreen, summertime can bring an abundance of cherry-hued skin. While some prefer to aloe up their wounds in private, others take their pain to Instagram, tagging the photos with #sunburn to find other like-minded solar haters.

In all seriousness, though: Instagrammers may treat sun damage lightly, but skin cancer is a serious concern. Globally, skin cancer rates are increasing, and according to the American Academy of Dermatology, 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime.

Sunburn Instagram has over a million posts, and most will make you grimace.

Some of them are just plain unfortunate:

While others are head-shakingly oblivious:

And others are truly horrifying:

Most of them, however, are just patently gnarly:

Others turn their burns into comedy:

There are also butts. A lot of butts.

In conclusion, get some goddamn sunscreen, you guys.
