Miley Cyrus Drops New Album After Final Performance at MTV VMAs

Culture

After a largely disappointing showing as Sunday's host of the MTV Video Music Awards, Miley Cyrus shed the assorted corny jokes and weed puns  in the final moments, and finally shone. After taking to the stage to perform the song "Dooo It!" off her new album Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz, she then released the album, sharing the link: http://mileycyrus.com/andherdeadpetz

It's available for free right now.

Her performance was an absolute assault on the senses — in a good way. Introduced by a group of people who took part in her Happy Hippy Instapride campaign, Miley Cyrus finally appeared to be in full control of the VMAs crowd.

The dancers who, according to Timehailed from RuPaul's Drag Race, channeled the bold, absurdly colorful, psychedelic style she rocked in her outfits throughout the night.

Cyrus also took her little foam finger stunt that she pulled at the 2013 VMAs to the next level, firing off a smoking gun between her legs.

There's a ton of traffic flowing to the site where her album is streaming. But when the smoke clears on Monday, we'll be able to hear Cyrus and her Dead Petz in their full glory. The album, which Wayne Coyne and the Flaming Lips have reportedly been involved with throughout the recording process, features guest vocals from Big Sean, Ariel Pink and Sarah Barthel of Phantogram. Hopefully, it will make up for the rest of her surprisingly lukewarm performance.

Perhaps it'll just be a sign of where her weirdness translates best — into the music.
