5 Defining Paul Ryan Speeches on Taxes, the Budget, and Entitlements

Impact

Congressman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) loves to talk about the economy, and right he should. As Chairman of the House Budget Committee, he’s been one of the most influential men in American monetary policy. Now that he’s been chosen as Mitt Romney’s running mate, it is clear that the economy will be more than just the ever-present backdrop to discussion of other issues. Romney’s choice of Ryan means that debate should revolve around both parties’ concrete, specific, economic plans.

But what are these plans? And what does Paul Ryan have to say about President Obama’s policies? As it turns out, the debate began long before Ryan was selected to the ticket. Here are five speeches in which Ryan discusses taxes and entitlements, growth and inequality.

1. Ryan accepts Romney’s offer to be his running mate on August 11, 2012 in Norfolk, Va.

2. Ryan speaks at the Texas GOP Convention in June 2012.

3. Ryan delivers the keynote speech at the George W. Bush Presidential Center’s Tax Policies for 4% Growth Conference in April 2012

4. Ryan speaks at the Heritage Foundation in October 2011

5. Ryan delivers the GOP response to President Obama’s 2011 State of the Union in January 2011
