Nicole Scherzinger Had a Pretty Zen Response to Being Asked Why She Doesn't Have Kids

At this point, it shouldn't come as news to anyone that women are tired AF of being asked when/if they're having kids. But apparently, talk show host Wendy Williams has not yet received this memo — which is why she recently peppered singer Nicole Scherzinger with questions about why she never got around to having children with her former boyfriend, race car driver Lewis Hamilton. 

The two were having a chill conversation about Scherzinger's new show Best Time Ever when Williams took it to the next level and brought up Scherzinger's recent breakup with Hamilton, whom she dated on and off for seven years. Williams was particularly interested in the fact that Scherzinger, who is 37, never got pregnant during the relationship. 

"I was like, 'This is a woman who spent seven years of her life breaking up and getting back together,'" Williams said, referring to Scherzinger. "Poor us, because [men] can have babies whenever they want. You know what I mean? Those are seven years you can never get back." 

At first, Scherzinger took Williams' comments in stride. "You know, everything happens for a reason," she said of her breakup. "I'm a girl of faith and a strong believer, and seven years was a long time."

"And the good years down here," Williams responded, ever-so-subtly gesturing to her guest's uterus.

While Scherzinger seemed slightly nonplussed by the prospect of having to explain her reproductive decisions on national television, she kept her cool. "That's all right, though," she said. "It's all in the spirit." Then she busted out some wise words from Buddha as an antidote to the uterus panic Williams was trying to induce.

"Whatever you experience in life and relationships, you're obviously meant to grow from it and learn more about yourself," she said. "As women, we're still — I'm still learning so much." And then came Scherzinger's Buddha-zinger: "In the end, three things matter: How much you loved, how gently you lived ... and how gracefully you let go of the things not meant for you."

"That's good!" Wendy replied. And the world was healed. 

Of course, Scherzinger isn't the first female celeb to endure invasive questions about her child-bearing status. Just last month, Chrissy Teigen discussed how not-okay it is to bring the subject up when she appeared on Tyra Banks' new show FABLife. "Anytime somebody asks me if I'm going to have kids, I'm like, 'One day, you're going to ask that to the wrong girl who's really struggling, and it's going to be really hurtful to them,'" she said. "And I hate that. So I hate it. Stop asking me!"

Indeed, baby business is a personal matter — one that women shouldn't have to constantly field questions about, no matter how many "good years" they have left. With that in mind, Scherzinger's levels of Buddhist chill are all the more impressive.
