Impact

The first round of the Democratic presidential primary debates will kick off Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. Eastern on CNN. As of now, five candidates — front-runner and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, top challenger Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, former Virginia Sen. Jimm Webb and former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee — are expected to take the debate stage. Vice President Joe Biden is a pending sixth participant, should he decide to join the presidential race.

CNN host Anderson Cooper and anchor Don Lemon will moderate the event, held at the Wynn Las Vegas hotel in Las Vegas. Grammy-winning singer Sheryl Crow will perform the national anthem.

CNN has created the hashtag #DemDebate to generate conversation on social media. The network will provide a live stream of the event via CNN TV, available on desktop and mobile devices.
