Sara Bareilles' fourth album What's Inside: Songs From Waitress, released on Friday, differs from her past endeavors in one, key way: It features music that the artist penned for the the musical Waitress, which premiered at American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts in August and is set to hit Broadway in the spring, Vanity Fair Reports.

Bareilles told USA Today that the album is her opportunity to sing the songs she wrote for the musical herself. "It was an act of self-indulgence," Bareilles told USA Today. "I couldn't quite pass off the show without getting a chance to sing these songs myself." The 12-track album emulates the same bright, indie feel of Bareille's past music but with a show tunes undertone.

What's Inside: Songs From Waitress lyrics: The lyrics to three tracks off the record are available on Genius. The album is available to stream on Spotify and download on iTunes.

A little about the musical: The musical is an adaptation of the 2007 indie film Waitress and is directed by Diane Paulus, the Tony-award winning director of Broadway revivals Pippin and Hair. The plot surrounds a small town waitress, played by Tony-award winner Jessie Mueller, who's stuck in an unhappy marriage, has an affair and makes extraordinary pies. "I really loved how flawed and messy Jenna is," Bareilles told USA Today. "I liked that she was a soulful, creative person trying to find an authentic way to express herself."
