Plane Crash in Akron, Ohio, Kills 9 After Aircraft Collides With Apartment Building

Nine people, including two pilots, were killed on Tuesday after a private jet plane crashed into an apartment building in Akron, Ohio, the Akron Fire Department told Fox 8. 

The jet's owner, Augusto Lewkowicz, the Beacon Journal that seven passengers and two pilots were on board and that none were believed to have survived. He did not name the people who were killed. 

The Hawker H25 plane was heading for Akron Fulton Airport when it collided into the building at roughly 3 p.m. local time, an FAA representative told Fox 8. It's unclear if anyone was inside the apartment building when the plane hit. 

The 10-passenger plane crashed first into one home, completely destroying it and igniting flames that spread to the next home as well, WKYC reports. Officials told WKYC that the fire department was on the scene shortly after the apartment building went up in flames.

The National Transportation Safety Board was investigating, according to Fox 8.
