Megadeath Rocker Dave Mustaine Says Obama, Not James Holmes, Staged Aurora Shooting

Impact

Could Barack Obama be the mastermind behind the recent shootings in Aurora, Colorado, and a Sikh Temple in Wisconsin?

That absurd statement has recently been made by one celebrity in remarks made in Singapore. In recent comments, lead vocalist for rock band Megadeath, Dave Mustaine, stated, "Back in my country, my president is trying to pass a gun ban so he's staging all of these murders. The 'Fast and Furious' thing down at the border. And Aurora, Colorado, all the people that were killed there. And now, the beautiful people at the Sikh Temple. I don't know where I'm going to live if America keeps going the way it's going because it looks like it's turning into Nazi America."

As outrageously absurd as Mustaine's accusations are, he is not the first person this year to promote a ridiculous conspiracy theory accusing the president of murder.

Earlier this year, a YouTube video of an interview conducted with Hollywood Producer Bettina Viviano alleged that Bill and Hillary Clinton were the original birthers. The video asserts that Bill Clinton was in 2008 going to expose the evidence that Barack Obama was not qualified for the presidency because he was not born in the United States. This was until Bill Clinton's best friend, Bill Gwatney was murdered within two weeks of the Democratic National Convention. Viviano alleges that Obama orchestrated the murder of Gwatney in an attempt to silence Clinton. According to Viviano, Clinton was still going to come forward and expose the evidence in spite of threats that were made by the Obama campaign against his own life, which he did not take seriously. However, Viviano explains that Bill Clinton was silenced for good when Obama threatened instead to have daughter Chelsea murdered.

Such crazy conspiracy theories are going to emerge regardless of who is president. Quite a few of them have surfaced over the last couple of decades. When Clinton was president, there was a conspiracy theory tallying the body count of people closely connected with him who could have exposed his involvement in the Whitewater scandal, had they not all suspiciously died. Ever since the fall of the twin towers, a conspiracy theory has been propagated in a video entitled "Loose Change,"

While conspiracy theories like these are effective in sparking fear in a small minority, they often go unnoticed or ignored by most. Such will likely also be the case in the most recent outburst by Dave Mustaine. However, if President Obama starts pushing to impose a gun ban, we may hear of more people buying into the assertion that perhaps the president is the mastermind behind the recent shootings. For the time being, a gun ban does not seem to be on the president's agenda, so it's pretty safe to assume that Mustaine's allegations do not hold weight.
