Canadian Children Are Welcoming Syrian Refugees in the Cutest Ways Possible

Impact

On Friday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau welcomed the first plane of refugees to touch down in Canada to find a new home after fleeing the Syrian civil war. As Canada is projected to accept 25,000 refugees, it means a lot of Canadians will soon be getting new neighbors — and at least one group of people is elated.

#WelcometoCanada began trending on Twitter after Trudeau's arrival ceremony — and numerous Canadian children have recorded video greetings to those arriving in Canada, as compiled in a recent video from World Vision Canada.

They've welcomed the Syrian refugees in a number of languages.

And when they get there, there are plenty of friends to be had.

One little girl even said, "It's a very nice place here. There's no war. You can go to school safely."

"This is a wonderful night where we get to show not just a planeload of new Canadians what Canada is all about, but we get to show the world how to open our hearts and welcome people who are fleeing extraordinarily difficult straits," Trudeau said during a press conference, according to the New York Times. "Tonight they step off the plane as refugees, but they walk out of this terminal as permanent residents of Canada."

"We define Canadian not by a skin color or a language or a religion or a background, but by a shared set of values, aspirations, hopes and dreams that not just Canadians but people around the world share," Trudeau added.
