50 Shades of Grey Movie: British Hunk Henry Cavill Would Be the Best Christian Grey

Culture

Ladies, if you’ve been waiting for your superhero to finally come, here’s your chance. Henry Cavill, the British heartthrob who’s set to play Clark Kent (aka Superman) in the upcoming Man of Steel movie, recently called off his wedding to professional show jumper Ellen Whitaker.

The actor proposed to his long-time girlfriend last June, but apparently the two had not been “getting on” for some time.

This breakup comes (conveniently) while rumors are swirling that Cavill is up for the part of famed playboy, Christian Grey for the 50 Shades of Grey movie. Now that his real life persona is starting to mirror the one of the fictional character, Cavill could be signaling to producers that he is more than ready to play the part.

Cavill is one member of the recent British invasion. In the past few years, a large number of British actors have flooded Hollywood, headlining some of its biggest films. This includes Spiderman’s Andrew Garfield, Tom Hardy from The Dark Knight Rises, and of course, the heartbroken Robert Pattinson. Clearly, the Brits are having a banging year in Hollywood and more actors continue to venture into Hollywood to leave their mark.

Although little is known about how Cavill is dealing with his new relationship status, his single stature will probably have little bearing on his chances of landing the role. Ryan Gosling is still a fan favorite and even Latino hottie Ryan Guzman has made it publically known that he wants the role. However, if Cavill can wow audiences in his portrayal of Superman like he is supposed to, his chances of playing Grey are greatly increased.

Cavill has kept mum about how he feels about the demise of his relationship, though one cure for a broken heart would be landing the lead role in a sure-to-be hit movie. If Cavill is tapped to be in 50 Shades, the “British invasion” will really turn into “British domination.”
