Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman, Mexico's drug kingpin who notoriously escaped prison last year, was captured, Mexican President Pena Nieto tweeted Friday. "Mission accomplished: we have him," Nieto wrote. "I want to inform the Mexican people that Joaquín Guzmán Loera has been arrested."

Nieto followed up with a tweet saying "I recognize the Cabinet of Security of the Government of the Republic for this important success in favor of the Rule of Law in Mexico."

Guzman was captured "alive and in good condition" Thursday night by Mexican marines after an armed battle, CBS News reported in a live broadcast. The Mexican Navy said in a statement that the marines raided a home in Los Mochis on a tip and were shot at from the inside before capturing Guzman, the Associated Press reported. Five were killed and one injured in the shootout.

In August, authorities announced a $5 million reward for anyone who provided information leading to Guzman's arrest. He was spotted several times since escaping from maximum security prison in July 2015, CBS News reported, but escaped from authorities each time.
