Don't Worry, Sylvester Stallone Did Thank the Director and Star of 'Creed' After All

It was a stellar moment for a Hollywood legend when Sylvester Stallone won a Golden Globe for playing Rocky Balboa once again in director Ryan Coogler's Creed. The film features the next generation of fighters, with Michael B. Jordan playing Rocky rival Adonis, Apollo Creed's son.

However, Stallone notably didn't appear to thank two people in particular: Coogler and Jordan. The initial appearance that he forgot to pay deference to them perked eyebrows, including those of Selma director Ava DuVernay.

There was a reason for those names getting left out, it turns out: Stallone was hampered by the constraints of live TV. According to reporters on the scene, Stallone ran back onto the stage to thank Coogler, Jordan and their co-star Tessa Thompson.

"You are a brilliant, brilliant filmmaker," Stallone reportedly said of Coogler. Such are the risks of live TV, and awards shows specifically: If you don't get what you need to say into the allotted time, you risk being misunderstood — especially in an industry that has such a clear and present problem with diversity.

Luckily, Stallone's efforts and the watchful eyes of reporters are setting the record straight.
