Critic's Choice Awards 2016: Full Preview, Start Time and How to Watch Online

A&E, Lifetime and the Lifetime Movie Network will broadcast at 8 p.m. Sunday the 21st annual Critics' Choice Awards on television and online (with a cable subscription) from the Barker Hangar, an event space at the airport in Santa Monica, California. The three-hour event is held by the Broadcast Film Critics Association and the Broadcast Television Journalist Association, and will be hosted by comedian T.J. Miller, who stars in HBO's Silicon Valley. 

The show honors "the finest in cinematic and television achievement," according to a press release. The BFCA and BTJA are two organizations that consist of journalists and critics. The Critics' Choice Awards is the "most accurate predictor of the Academy Award nominations," the press release said.

Comedian Amy Schumer, who starred in last year's Trainwreck, will receive the MVP award. "The BFCA and BTJA are thrilled to be honoring someone as wildly talented and multifaceted as Amy Schumer with our second MVP award. With her work in both film and television Amy proves that she can make us laugh until it hurts whatever the platform," Joey Berlin, BCFA/BTJA president, said in the release.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams will present the genius award to visual effects studio ILM, which worked on Stars Wars and The Revenant.

Last year's hit feminist action flick Mad Max: Fury Road is the star of the show, with 13 nominations, including best picture, best action movie and best cinematography. Charlize Theron is nominated for best actress in an action movie and best actress for her role in the film. Co-star Tom Hardy is up for best actor in an action movie. 

Jennifer Lawrence, who starred in Joy and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 is up for three awards: best actress, best actress in a comedy and best actress in an action movie. 

Television networks ABC, FX Networks and HBO boast 14 nominations each, leading the pack of the small-screen nominations. FX's Fargo leads the way, with eight. Amazon's Emmy-winning Transparent has six nominations. NBC's live musical The Wiz Live! is up for five. 

The fan-voted award called "most bingeworthy" has nominated Empire, Friends, Game of Thrones, Orange Is the New Black, Outlander and The Walking Dead
