Watch Ted Cruz Bust Out Some Spanish to Try to Prove a Point Against Marco Rubio

Impact

Sparring with Marco Rubio of Florida on immigration reform, Ted Cruz tried a new tactic in the ninth Republican presidential debate on Saturday night: He broke into Spanish.

Assailing Rubio as weak on immigration, Cruz attacked his rival for once appearing on the Spanish-language network Univision and saying, "in Spanish," that he wouldn't scrap President Barack Obama's executive action on immigration immediately upon taking office.

"First of all, I don't know how he knows what I said on Univision because he doesn't speak Spanish," Rubio shot back, noting that his fellow Cuban-American senator lacks fluency in their ancestral tongue.

Before Rubio could go on, Cruz muttered a few words that suggested he's purchased a Rosetta Stone program.
