The Oscars 2016: Preview, Viewing Info, Performers and Nominees for Sunday's Show

The 88th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday evening at 8:30 p.m. Eastern, streaming live on ABC's television channel, app or website, with cable subscription and only in certain cities. The livestream will only be available in the following cities: Chicago, Fresno, Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, Raleigh-Durham, and San Francisco. Actor-comedian Chris Rock will be hosting the awards show as his second time, according to a November press release.

The performers and presenters who are guaranteed to go onstage come from a variety of genres and backgrounds and include Tina Fey, the Weeknd, Lady Gaga, John Legend and Whoopi Goldberg.

Nominations for the 24 categories were announced in January by directors Guillermo del Toro and Ang Lee, actor John Krasinski and Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences president Cheryl Boone Isaacs. The most nominated films were The Revenant with 12 nods, Mad Max: Fury Road with 10 and The Martian with seven.

The Revenant is predicted to steal the show — especially for best picture and best directing for Alejandro Iñárritu — considering that the film has already won three Golden Globes this year. With The Revenant's success, leading star Leonardo DiCaprio will also probably snag the Oscar for best actor (he's up against Matt Damon and Eddie Redmayne). After all, DiCaprio did eat real bison liver and suffered some freezing cold conditions for the film, People reported.

Breakout star Brie Larson will probably take home her first Oscar for her riveting role in Room. Like DiCaprio and The Revenant, she can put it right next to her Golden Globe.
