Arizona Primary Results: Ben Quayle Goes Down to David Schweikert

Impact

Believe it or not, there was a primary on Tuesday (actually, three primaries and a runoff). Lost in the hype surrounding the Republican National Convention were some important races with national implications in Arizona.

The 4th congressional Democratic primary is still too close to call, with all but one precinct reporting. Jonnhie Robinson leads Mikel Weisser by a measly 23 votes out of 17,806 cast.

U.S. Senate

As expected, Jeff Flake won handily in the GOP senate primary over Wil Cardon and two also-rans, and in November will face former U.S. Surgeon General Richard Carmona, who ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.

2nd congressional, Democratic and Republican

In the 2nd district Democrat and former aide to Gabrielle Giffords, Ron Barber, will face retired Air Force colonel Martha McSally, as both won their races by huge margins.

4th congressional, Democratic

Incredibly, it's still too close to call, as only 24 votes separate Johnnie Robinson and Mikel Weisser.

5th congressional, Republican

PolicyMic was the first media outlet to call the 5th for Kirk Sloan. Just sayin'. Sloan will face Democrat Spencer Morgan in the general election.

6th congressional, Republican

Two freshman incumbents squared off against each other thanks to redistricting. David Schweikert defeated Ben Quayle, son of former Vice President Dan Quayle. PolicyMic called the race for Schweikert first.

6th congressional, Democratic

Matt Jette will face Schweikert after eking out a close victory over John Williamson.

9th congressional, Republican

Vernon Parker emerges victorious in a crowded field of seven, and will face Kyrsten Sinema to be the first ever U.S. Congressperson from Arizona's new 9th district.
