iPhone 5se or iPhone SE: What’s the Meaning of Apple’s Latest Push?

Apple's upcoming and upgraded version of 2013's iPhone 5s will allegedly be called the iPhone SE, 9to5Mac reported on Friday. It was originally named the iPhone 5se, but the 5 was dropped in Apple's classic style of simplification.

The SE stands for special edition — and special it is, since this is the first iPhone upgrade without a number in its name, 9to5Mac reported. To customers, the 5 in the name could also make it seem like a less attractive revamped older model compared to the shiny and new iPhone 6s, according to Business Insider.

The iPhone SE will have a 4-inch screen, curved edges, a faster processor compared to the iPhone 5s, thanks to an A9 processor (the same as in the iPhone 6s) and an M9 coprocessor, according to 9to5Mac. The phone will also be available in rose gold, and 16GB and 64GB capacities, like the iPhone 6s. 

On March 15, Apple will be hosting an event in which it is expected to reveal information on the iPhone SE and a new 9.7-inch iPad Pro.
