Academy Award nominees Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling both attended the Oscars on Sunday night, bringing back intense memories of their 2004 romantic drama The Notebook. Set in South Carolina and North Carolina in the 1930s and '40s, the film features Gosling as factory worker Noah and rich debutant Allie (McAdams) as passionate lovers.

Gosling and McAdams started dating after filming the movie but up in 2007, but that doesn't mean their fans wouldn't mind seeing them rekindle their old flame.

"God bless The Notebook. It introduced me to one of the great loves of my life," Gosling told GQ in 2007. "But people do Rachel and me a disservice by assuming we were anything like the people in that movie. Rachel and my love story is a hell of a lot more romantic than that." Since then, the two stars have been romantically involved in other relationships.

The Big Short, which is nominated for best picture, features Gosling alongside Brad Pitt, Christian Bale and Steve Carell. The Big Short has been a resurrection for Gosling's career, while McAdams was nominated for best supporting actress for her performance in Spotlight, which is also up for best picture. Alicia Vikander won the best supporting actress Oscar for her role in The Danish Girl.

While it doesn't seem like the duo will have a moment at this year's Oscars, fans can still dream.
