The simple-to-use Tinder is perhaps the biggest surfer riding the wave that's breaking down the stigma of online dating. But since its major momentum in 2013, Tinder now faces competition from other dating apps that seek to dig deeper than a simple right-swipe. Below are six underrated dating apps

1. Tastebuds

If you believe that someone's music taste is an indication of how well you'll get along with them then consider downloading the free app Tastebuds. Using your phone's own music library, you can find people nearby with similar taste. Then you can send them a song or perhaps go on a first date to a concert. Even if the relationship doesn't work out, at least you might get some new music out of it.

2. Double

Things are less scary when you're not alone, especially when it comes to dating. Double is an app which lets you match with others as pairs. You can pair up with multiple friends, and when you match with another duo, all four of you are thrown into a chat.

3. Happn

Happn/iTunes

This app is a modern and more approachable twist on Craigslist's Missed Connections section. Happn shows you the people you most commonly cross paths with. It's a good way to meet people in your neighborhood or places you frequent, like your gym or favorite café. Unfortunately, it might be literally too close to home if the date doesn't go so well.

4. Bumble

This app turns Tinder styled online dating on its head. Bumble features the addictively simple swipe-to-match found in other apps but it places the power in the hands of females. This means if there's a mutual like, the female has to initiate contact. For same-sex matches, either person can message first.

5. Coffee Meets Bagel

Coffee Meets Bagel/iTunes

Lured in by two great things (coffee and bagels), Coffee Meets Bagel advertises itself as a dating app "for singles who are looking for real relationships." Anyway, once noon strikes, you get to "like" or "pass" one other person based on geography and interests. If there's a mutual match, you get a one-to-one messaging line for a limited time. Set something up or risk losing each other forever.
