Starbucks' Breakfast Sandwich Recalled Because of Listeria Contamination

There's trouble brewing at Starbucks — A breakfast sandwich sold at Starbucks is being voluntarily recalled by the company that supplies it due to fears that it may be contaminated with the listeria bacteria, ABC News reported on Tuesday.

The affected item is a sausage, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich made by Progressive Gourmet Inc., which issued a voluntary recall for the sandwiches sold on March 3 and March 4 in 250 Starbucks locations in Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma, according to the company's recall announcement, which was posted by the Food and Drug Administration on March 4. 

According to the company's announcement, "As soon as Starbucks was informed of this potential issue, the impacted product was removed from the 250 stores that potentially received it. The scope of this issue is limited to these stores."

Listeria can cause fever, headaches, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It's particularly dangerous in young children, elderly people or anyone with a compromised immune system. In pregnant people, listeria can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.

So far, no illnesses associated with the recall have been reported.
