Impact

A large explosion near a bus terminal killed at least six people, four of whom were police officers, and wounded at least 20 in the southeastern city of Diyarbakir, Turkey, on Thursday.

Video footage from the predominantly Kurdish city showed ambulances and emergency workers responding to the scene after the blast, which occurred around 5 p.m. local time (10 a.m. Eastern).

According to Al Jazeera, the bomb was launched at a vehicle transporting Turkish security forces, which are currently engaged in ongoing violent clashes with the Kurdistan Workers Party.

As of 11:35 a.m. Eastern, no group has claimed responsibility for the blast. Turkey has been rocked by a series of deadly attacks over the past year, beginning with a car bomb detonated in Ankara last June and two explosions earlier this month.
