DNC Schedule of Speakers: James Taylor, Mary J Blige to Deliver Music Performances

Impact

With the Democratic National Convention only a few days away, Charlotte, North Carolina is gearing up for a historic week. Politicians, celebrities, and Democrats from across the country will be filling the small southern city. Also filing into town are the DNC's musical guests. "This roster of performances only adds to the excitement building in Charlotte for the historic week ahead of us,” Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, chair of the 2012 DNC, said in a release. “The tens of thousands who will attend convention events in person and all those tuning in across the country should be ready for quite a show."

Performing on Wednesday will be Jessica Sanchez of American Idol fame as well as saxophonist Branford Marsalis.

The biggest acts will appear on Thursday evening, the final night of the convention. Hip hop icon Mary J. Blige is on the roster, as are 70s group Earth, Wind, and Fire, as well as the Foo Fighters, Delta Rae; vocalist Marc Anthony will sing the National Anthem.

Perhaps the biggest name on the DNC musical bill is James Taylor who will reportedly perform his classic "Carolina in My Mind."

If we're judging the conventions based on their musical cool factor, the DNC certainly has my vote. While Trace Adkins and Kid Rock did come out in support of Romney, it seems like Obama is winning this musical war.

That said, no one can trump Clint Eastwood.
