Bernie Sanders Lets Off Some Steam With Seth Meyers for a Special Edition Of "Ya Bernt"

Culture

We know Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is doing well in the polls and is catching up with frontrunner Hillary Clinton, but more importantly, how good is he at throwing shade? Really good, apparently. On Thursday, Sanders stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers to talk with the host about his disheveled hair, discuss his latest war of words with Clinton and unleash some unfiltered fury.

In a remixed version of Meyers' late night segment — appropriately named "Ya Bernt" — Sanders combs through issues that irk him. You've probably heard him talk about them before. Namely, the 1% not being taxed high enough and the big banks in America getting away scot-free for the economic recession. In throwing this shade, though, Sanders got creative, and even the poorly received Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice couldn't escape his wrath.

"What do you need all that money for?" Sanders posits. "If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were trying to compensate for something. How is it plausible that some of you are paying a lower tax rate than your secretaries? That makes less sense than the plot of Batman v. Superman. 1%, ya Bernt."

He was equally harsh in his critique of big banks, reminding them that all the greatest bands have broken up, too. You know, in case the banks are insecure. "My advice to you is the same advice I'd give to a couple contemplating an open relationship: It's time to break up," he said. "But don't feel bad. All the best bands break up eventually — the Beatles, Destiny's Child. Personally, I can't wait for the Behind the Music on Goldman Sachs."

However, Meyers wasn't let off the hook, either. Sanders notes that Meyers and his late night colleagues have made light of Sanders' messy hair throughout the election cycle — almost as incessantly as GOP front runner Donald Trump. For that, Meyers had to be Bernt as well.

"Seth, why don't you look in the mirror, Tintin?" Sanders says. "You're carrying more product than an Amazon warehouse. And why does it come to a point like that? It looks like a tiny surfer is about to hang 10 on your forehead."

Meyers, ya Bernt. Check out the clip from Thursday night's show below.
