Watch 'Blue Girls Burn Fast,' Amandla Stenberg's Short Film That Got Her Admitted to NYU

Impact

Amandla Stenberg is bound for New York University's undergraduate film program this fall. Today, the actor, activist and woke AF teen shared Blue Girls Burn Fast, the short film that was part of Stenberg's admissions application.

Stenberg was all hands on deck with Blue Girls Burn Fast; she wrote, produced, directed and edited the short film, with assistant director credit given to Bailey Wait and a boom-mic assist from November Rivera — both of whom are best friends of Stenberg's.

The film costars Leeza Lester and Julia Rocha, and centers on the relationship between their characters: teenage truant Andy and nosy neighbor Lea.

Andy (Lester) is a foster child with an adoptive mother that Andy says "reeks of incense and white-girl rebellion." One night, Andy gets a random visit from Lea (Rocha), who breaks into her room at midnight and blasts music. Lea's visit complicates Andy's plight to reconcile her personal life with family and school (where her crush also attends).

The soundtrack features music from Willow Smith, and prop-wise, the "Hotline Bling" ugly Christmas sweater even makes an appearance.
