Does Rubbing Garlic On Your Face Really Get Rid of Pimples?

Impact

First toothpaste, then egg whites — now the latest home remedy to get rid of pimples is rubbing garlic on your face. It keeps vampires at bay, but does it actually work for acne? Beauty blogger Farah Dhukai posted her garlic garlic tips on Instagram last week, promising that rubbing garlic "juice" on your stubborn blemish "will flatten your pimple and get rid of it overnight, if not instantly!"

But some on Twitter are complaining that the garlic trick didn't work for them, or worse, left skin irritations.

So does garlic actually work as a cure-all for skin problems, or is it going to burn your skin off? According to Dr. Amy Wechsler, garlic might actually work to help reduce the size of some of your pimples. "Allicin is the active ingredient in garlic," Wechsler told Seventeen. "Allicin has anti-inflammatory properties, so it's possible that applying some could take down the inflammation."

If you have sensitive skin though, it's probably a good idea to check with a medical professional before rubbing garlic all over your face.
