Spike Lee’s Prince Block Party Lit Up the Streets of Brooklyn

As the news of pop icon Prince's death spread on Thursday, one of the musician's highest-profile fans — director and longtime Prince collaborator, Spike Lee — invited New Yorkers to memorialize the artist at a block party outside Lee's home in Brooklyn.

Per Lee's request in the Instagram invite, people simply needed to "dance, sing, and shout to his music." According to Pix11, around 1,000 fans were in attendance, many of whom shared pictures of the celebration on social media.

Because like His Purple Majesty said, "Life is just a party."
