Tardy Students Punished With the Task of Doodling 1,000 Emojis

Teachers have been forcing kids to write repetitive sentences as punishment for years. But now it's 2016, and schools are meeting kids halfway and making them draw emoticons.

Students at the University of Electronic Science and Technology in Chengdu, China, have to write one thousand emojis if they are tardy to class, Mashable reported.

The images of the disciplinary doodles surfaced on Chinese social media site Weibo, reportedly showing late students writing an onslaught of emoticons by hand.

This isn't the first time a teacher has tasked tardy students with a repetitive doodle — CCTVNews reported that a teacher in Sichuan, China, last year made his late pupils write 56-stroke Chinese character 1,000 times. 

And using repetitive writing as a punishment is no new technique; in a New York Times article from January 1983 called "The Evil in Using Writing to Punish," a father wrote about teachers making his child write an essay as punishment. 

At least the students in Chengdu get to scribble smileys instead of a dissertation. Punishment? We (*´艸`*) — translation: laugh — in your face.
