The Man Who Killed Himself on Apple’s Campus Has Been Identified by Police

The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department has identified the male body found dead at Apple headquarters on Wednesday. Apple employee Edward Thomas Mackowiak, Reuters reported, was 25 years old.

In a statement to Reuters, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office ruled the death a suicide. "The Medical Examiner determined the manner of death was suicide and the cause was a gunshot to the head."

Mackowiak was reportedly a software engineer at Apple, according to Reuters, but his LinkedIn profile has since been taken down. A preview of Mackowiak's LinkedIn page still comes up in search:

The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department responded to a medical call on Wednesday morning after a male body was discovered in a conference room on Apple's Cupertino campus. Santa Clara Sheriff Sgt. Andrea Urena said in a statement posted by San Jose Mercury News reporter Mark Gomez that "there was no other individuals involved and they believe it was an isolated incident and that there is nobody else on campus or in the public that are at risk."

"We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of a young and talented coworker," Apple spokesperson Kristin Huguet told BuzzFeed in a statement. "Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends, including the many people he worked with here at Apple. We are working to support them however we can in this difficult time."
