50 Shades of Grey Movie Cast: Ryan Gosling to be Confirmed as Christian Grey

Regardless of who ends up being cast as Christian Grey in the upcoming film version of E.L. James' controversial novel Fifty Shades of Grey there will be blood, as legions of fans of Man of Steel's Henry Cavill, White Collar's Matt Bomer and True Blood's Aleksander Skarsgard have invested their time and emotions in the summer-long Christian Grey sweepstakes.

However, in what it could be one the most decisive signs yet, regarding the coveted role of the S&M CEO of Grey Enterprises, Niall Leonard, the husband of E.L. James, told Now Daily that the star of The Notebook "will take the lead role" in Fifty Shades of Grey. James, however, who will be interviewed by Katy Couric in her new talk show, has remained mum on the matter, limiting herself to tweet that the casting still remains open as both the director and writer still need to be hired.

And speaking of writers, American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis, who unsuccessfully tried to bid himself as the project's screenwriter, and stepped in controversy when he declared favorite Matt Bomer as "too gay to play Christian Grey" (Bomer is openly gay), is at it again, proposing porn star-turned-actor James Deen as a potential Grey -- someone that online fans consider as kind of a long shot to clinch the coveted role.

Meanwhile, Cavill and Skarsgard, who became favorites for the role after releasing Fifty Shades of Grey-themed cologne commercials, are still in the fight for the much-anticipated role. Skarsgard, known for playing Viking Era-vampire Eric Northman in HBO's True Blood is bidding himself through a Calvin Klein ad, while Cavill -- who is actually the prototype for the role -- appears on a 2008 Dunhill ad where he wears Grey's signature suit and cufflinks and is waiting to board a helicopter emblazoned with the letter "G."
