Justin Bieber’s Face Tattoo Artist Revealed the Tattoo's Meaning

Impact

Justin Bieber apparently underwent a major religious journey over the course of just a few short months — so much so that the 22-year-old tattooed a cross on his face. Three months after telling GQ he would only ink his face when he's "really old" (translation: in his 40s), Bieber's New York City-based tattoo-artist-to-the- stars Jonathan "JonBoy" Valena told Us Weekly the singer was inspired to get the work done after finding God.

"Justin came in last night and decided on a small cross near the corner of his eye," JonBoy told Us. "It represents his journey in finding purpose with God."

Unfortunately, Bieber's fans weren't finding anything revelatory about the ink.

Equipped with video evidence, fans and social media users lambasted the artist for going against words he said in the February GQ feature titled "Justin Bieber Would Like to Reintroduce Himself." If we can't trust the Biebs on his words, who can we trust?

Fans also expressed the resounding sentiment that Bieber's face tattoo essentially knocked him from a straight dime down to something decidedly cheaper.

Some even hoped they could somehow turn back time and warn the megastar of his impending decision to tattoo his face, encouraging him to instead do a short-term facial modification (it's unclear why Bieber's face was edited into a box of nuggets for the purposes of this tweet):

Unfortunately for the Biebs, the face tattoo is not the same as his controversial dreadlocks 'do, which he chopped after receiving a considerable amount of backlash from both fans and online communities calling him out for cultural appropriation.

We can't tell from his face whether he's happy with the end product or if he's praying it's not too late to say "fix me."
