50 Shades of Grey Movie Cast: Forget About Henry Cavill, Ryan Gosling is Christian Grey

As the summer wears out and speculation about who will be cast as Christian Grey in the upcoming film adaptation of E.L. James' erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey lives on, actors Ryan Gosling (The Notebook), Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) and Matt Bomer (White Collar) have become the top three favorites to play the CEO of Grey Enterprises on the big screen.

And, while each star has his own advantages when it comes to clinch the much coveted part, it will be up to the producers and director to find the right man for the job; for it will not only be about looks but also about acting skills and a host of other reasons (schedules, contracts, etc.) that the producers of the film -- The Social Network's Dana Brunetti and Michael De Luca -- will base their decision on.

However, as the Fifty Shades of Grey phenomenon reaches fever pitch -- with fashion, advertising, music and culture in general reflecting the controversial novel's unmistakable look and feel -- some potential candidates for the role (such as True Blood's Aleksander Skarsgard) have participated in commercials that could be taken as advanced auditions for the part.
